Dear,
Please find below information on UKAS’s role, remit and how seriously it handles concerns about accredited organisations. I’ve also included something on its involvement in the international accreditation community, as well as the scope of UKAS accreditation.
- The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the national accreditation body for the UK. Its role is to assess the technical competence and impartiality of organisations that provide certification, inspection, testing, calibration, validation and verification services (collectively known as conformity assessment services) against the requirements of nationally and internationally agreed standards.
- UKAS is not a regulating, policing, monitoring or standards-defining body. As such, UKAS’s remit is primarily limited to the assessment of an organisation’s competence and impartiality against relevant standards, the awarding of its accreditation and where necessary its sanctioning (either through suspension or withdrawal of accreditation).
- UKAS takes concerns about the performance of UKAS-accredited conformity assessment bodies (CABs) very seriously and will always act on any credible information that is brought to its attention.
- UKAS is an active member of national and international accreditation communities, whose aim is to harmonise global accreditation and conformity assessment requirements and administer interntational mutual recognition agreements (MLAs). Together these MLAs recognise the technical equivalence and facilitate the acceptance of accredited conformity assessment in over 100 participating international economies.
- The scope of UKAS accreditation is limited to the specific activities, processes and locations listed in each CAB’s Schedule of Accreditation. The schedules of all UKAS customers are readily available to search on the UKAS website. https://www.ukas.com/find-an-organisation/
I hope this helps provide you with some assurance that UKAS will review the information you have provided and take the appropriate action.
Kind regards,
