Introduction
Antwerp’s planned FR10 Express Cycling Ring is a 28 km orbital bike highway that will encircle the city centre, weaving together riverfront promenades and low-traffic greenways. By fast-tracking completion of key links—including the new Schelde Tunnel for pedestrian, cyclist and cars beneath the Scheldt and a dedicated bicycle bridge—the project aims to fully unite the left and right banks by 2028.
This lecture explores how transforming the FR10 into a seamless, high-quality cycle corridor can shift thousands of daily car trips onto bicycles, delivering cleaner air, quieter streets, and significant CO₂ reductions across the metropolitan region.
